On September 21st, 8th graders were challenged to create a newtons necklace in their science classes. This happens every year, in their science classes, as a lesson about force and different units of measurements. A newtons necklace is a necklace whose mass is roughly 101-103 grams and weights 1 newton. If the 8th graders wear the necklace for a whole day on any of the three days, they earn 2 points of extra credit.

The assignment is to find objects around their house that aren’t school supplies, sharp objects, and non-edible to put onto their necklace. Their goal is to find as many objects as they can so its mass is exactly 101-103 grams with a weight of 1 newton. Once they gather their objects, they weigh them during science class using a triple beam scale and use a white string to attach all of the items.

Many 8th graders have different items on their newtons necklace. 8th grader, Therese Domingo, has a Smiski, hair ties, rings, and keychains on her newton necklace. Another 8th grade student named Hayoon has a nail file, fake nails, and a Hello Kitty plush keychain. One last 8th grade student named Kassandra has a hairbrush and a Labubu on hers. Many 8th grade students have many different unique items on their newtons necklaces.
